Photo Mechanic can also print contact sheets and export HTML for Web pages. In all, Photo Mechanic has more than 60 variables that enable customized workflows for captioning and renaming photos. One important variable called the sequence variable can be used for sequential naming or to serialize certain IPTC fields. IPTC fields can be extracted using variables for use in renaming - even the filename variable can be placed in an IPTC field. You can also use variables representing the current or capture time, date, or frame number, for example, for file renaming purposes. Standard image capture data like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and focal length can be accessed through "variables" and tucked-away in any IPTC field such as the caption. Metadata can be information saved with each photo such as image capture data or IPTC fields, or other information like the current date and time. Photo Mechanic's unique Image Variable technology unleashes the power of metadata. Photo Mechanic can then pass the photos you select on to Adobe Photoshop for image retouching. Photo Mechanic helps you find the best photo amongst several similar shots with its preview display that lets you flip through a group of selected photos at high resolution. You can quickly rotate, preview, copy, delete, tag, rename, and add caption / keyword (IPTC news record) information to photos both individually and in batches. Photo Mechanic displays the "thumbnails" of photos on a camera disk or folder in familiar "contact sheet" display windows. Photo Mechanic is a standalone image browser that lets you view your digital photos with convenience and speed. Optimized for use with professional cameras from Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Pentax, Photo Mechanic has become the standard tool for digital image browsing. Photo Mechanic's innovative batch captioning, renaming, speedy browsing, and Photoshop connectivity features have made it the choice of thousands of photojournalists and professional photographers worldwide. It is the answer for professional digital photographers looking for a fast and easy-to-use image browser for digital camera files. I could get PM again and explore more functions, or go cheap and simple with Apollo One but maybe there's something else out there now.Photo Mechanic is a photographer's image browser tool. These seem like very simple functions to me that ideally the Mac could still handle natively in Finder but hey ho. To be fair Finder is fast on the M1 but I like the full screen and even slideshow option with PM and Apollo One. This is the point of the thread post I guessĪnother big feature for me is culling fast, selecting ideally with one button, or as in Apollo One it's cmd+1 (iirc) and after I can delete all those I've selected for trash. It's possibly going to be purchased as it's only 25.99 and might be my new best option. I no longer have Adobe bridge which was decent at that, as well as manual re-ordering of images in the browser (something I use Name Changer which has an image browser you use to move images around as you wish prior to renaming, albeit slightly awkward).Īpollo One has a sort by EXIF (Date Time Digitized) option which works for me better than Creation Date but until I purchase it I can't rename. It works way better than Finder (Mac) which often fails to order the images correctly, even though the camera clocks are synced. I no longer use it for ingesting so that's not a problem but I do like the ability to sort by Capture Time as a job usually has images from at least two SD cards. I have been using Photo Mechanic for years now but barely using 10% of what it does so started looking around again to see what else is out there now I'm using a new Mac. Tldr: What do you use for sorting by camera time, re ordering manually, and culling?
